Stay in the traditional house!
Experience high-altitude living at Nyoma Eco Homestay, tucked away in the remote Changthang region of Ladakh at 14,000 ft. Located 185 km from Leh, Nyoma sits at a scenic junction connecting travelers to Chushul, Karzok and Hanle. The village overlooks a beautiful 700-year-old monastery and offers glimpses into the daily life of the Changpa nomads who call this region home.
Surrounded by vast open landscapes, it’s an ideal base for wildlife enthusiasts — with opportunities to spot the Black-necked Crane, Tibetan Wild Ass and Blue Sheep. Whether you’re passing through or staying longer, Nyoma Eco Homestay offers a peaceful, culturally rich experience in one of Ladakh’s most untouched corners.
At Nyoma Eco Homestay, you’ll be welcomed by Jigmet, a warm and gracious host whose deep connection to the land and its stories brings the soul of Changthang alive. With a wealth of knowledge about the region, its wildlife and her ancestral heritage, Jigmet is always happy to share fascinating tales over a cup of butter tea or a walk through the village.
Her love for her home shines through in every corner — the house is spotlessly clean and thoughtfully maintained, reflecting her attention to detail and pride in Ladakhi hospitality. A passionate cook, Jigmet prepares delicious local delicacies like skyu, thukpa and freshly steamed momos, along with comforting Indian meals. She also enjoys inviting guests into her kitchen for hands-on cooking experiences, especially momo-making sessions that are as fun as they are flavorful.
Enjoy wholesome, home-cooked meals using fresh, organic ingredients sourced from the village and nearby highland pastures. Enjoy traditional Ladakhi dishes like skyu, thukpa and butter tea, thoughtfully adapted to suit a range of tastes. She also serves comforting Indian meals like roti, dal, rice and seasonal vegetables.
Breakfast often includes khambir—a hearty Ladakhi bread—paired with salted butter tea and homemade organic butter. If you have any dietary restrictions or allergies, please let us know in advance so Jigmet can tailor your meals accordingly.
Wake up to crisp mountain air and a visit to Nyoma’s 700-year-old monastery, where morning prayers offer a serene start to your day. Back at the homestay, enjoy a traditional Ladakhi breakfast made from fresh, local ingredients by your host, Jigmet.
Explore the surrounding landscapes known for Black-necked Cranes, Tibetan Wild Ass, and nomadic Changpa settlements. Use Nyoma as your base for trips to Tso Moriri, Hanle, or Chushul. Nyoma Eco Homestay is perfect for travelers seeking an authentic, off-the-beaten-path experience in Ladakh. Located in the remote Changthang region, it offers a rare opportunity to connect with local culture, explore high-altitude landscapes, and witness unique wildlife — all while staying in a clean, comfortable home hosted by a warm and knowledgeable local, Jigmet. Whether you’re en route to Hanle or Tso Moriri, or simply looking to slow down and immerse yourself in traditional Ladakhi life, this homestay provides a peaceful, meaningful stay far from the tourist crowds.
Guests like to eat our Ladakhi food. They say it is delicious, even when it is prepared by an elderly ama (mother) like me. I always make sure I serve them the cleanest and healthiest food. My husband is a copper artist. When guests leave us, they say ‘Julley’, and hug us. It makes us feel happy.
I became a Mountain Homestay Host in 2018, and I have hosted many travellers since then. Running a homestay has helped me and my family a lot. Not only is the solar set up in our house useful for us, but even travellers prefer to stay in our homestay because of it.
The training we got in astronomy turned out to be a life-changing experience for our village. I felt happy and proud while mapping the position of the planets and sharing the secrets of the universe with the tourists. Tourists told me that even they didn’t know so much about the dark skies!
