Sustainable development

In spite of having potential in terms of – richness in culture, human capital, scenic surrounding, and local will to create opportunities – communities are living in poor conditions. Lack of employment opportunities, skill training and infrastructure causes heavy migration.
The migration not only results in cultural loss, it also is a loss of sustainable living that has prevailed in the villages of Ladakh since centuries. Besides, the migration of people also adds burden to the resources in the Urbans.
Tourism Potential

Situated in the most beautiful locations, these remote Himalayan villages have a huge potential to create new travel destinations. There are a numerous number of tourists that flock to the Himalayas in summers to vacation and recreation, but only a handful of them actually get a chance to venture to the offbeat rural destinations.

Mountain Homestays and Global Himalayan Expedition aims to empower communities by creating infrastructure in the remote villages for employment generation and skill development through sustainable tourism activities.

We empower the communities living in remote locations in three stages – Electrification, Skill Development and operating tourism.

Electrification

Global Himalayan Expedition (GHE) identifies the remote village where communities are still living in darkness. Through trekking expeditions, GHE provides solar energy to these villages.

Skill development

After a discussion with villagers, our team provides basic training for hospitality and tour leader. MH team set up the homestays by providing essential material and create employment opportunities for locals.

Tourism Development

Mountain Homestays and local communities build homestays and experiences in the offbeat destinations. Communities host travellers to provide a comfortable stay and authentic experiences.

Once the destinations are developed with basic infrastructure of solar electricity and comfortable stay options, and the locals are trained in hospitality and hygiene, these homestays are available to the outside world to come and experience an authentic village life.

We are promoting these unique destinations through online partnerships and social handles to engage the travelers to experience the unique cultures hidden in the mountains. In the process we are adding livelihood to the communities and encouraging them to preserve their enviroment and heritage, and not migrate to nearest cities for income.
