Drive to a site situated amidst mountains in the town established on the foundation of spirituality

Why this experience is unique?

  • A day at an untouched heritage site of Ladakh
Experience Details

Atitsey Monastery, in the region of Lamayuru, is a place whose roots of spirituality goes back to the days of Naropa, the Indian Buddhist Mahasiddha. Naropa was also a contemporary of Atiśa, the Tibetan Buddhist Mahasiddha. The sense of spirituality since back then has been continued till today. On this journey to Atitsey Monastery, we will stopover at a beautiful spot of the river confluence. The confluence shows the clear distinguishing colors of Indus and Zanskar Rivers. Unlike other monasteries, this site has a collection of unique artifacts. The day will be well spent traveling through beautiful landscapes, visiting and exploring the unique heritage.

The journey you will be taking
A day at Atitsey Monastery
  • Drive to Lamayuru
  • Visit the Atitsey Monastery
  • Lunch with a view

Atitsey monastery

A day would begin by traveling towards Lamayuru while taking small stops to see the river confluence, Pathar Sahib Gurudwara and through a scenic moon-land that Ladakh is known for. But instead of going to known places in Lamayuru, we will head to a monastery that is situated deep inside the mountains. It is a place where one sees the original Buddhism practices in its most real form. One can see the traditional artifacts that monks have been using for daily rituals for many decades. Unlike other monasteries, this site has a collection of unique artifacts. The day will be well spent traveling through beautiful landscapes, visiting and exploring the unique heritage. The experience would be entirely complete with a Ladakhi meal in the authentic Ladakhi setup. The monastery has recently been electrified by Global Himalayan Expedition using solar micro-grids. The infrastructure has helped the local monks to spend more time in the monastery for religious practices.
