Home of a postwoman & archery player of Ladakh
Hymia Village is situated on Pangong Road where cyclists or bikers can stay during the almost-last leg of their journey. The village is home to the local postal service and one of the homestays is actually set up in the house from where the postal services are operated. The host of this homestay is a postwoman and her father is a former archery champion. Find your most desired comfort after a strenuous journey in these well-equipped homestays of Hymia. Cherish your taste buds with the scrumptious Ladakhi food and hear many stories about archery from a former champion in the sport.
Tsering Chosdon is a postwoman by occupation and is a multi-skilled person. Her father is highly skilled in Archery and used to be an integral part of Archery festivals. Tsering and other homestay hosts in the village ensure the best services are provided to each guest and all the host families get equal opportunity to host the travellers.
The host specializes in making local delicacies such as Momo and Skew. You can also ask for the secret recipe to make delicious Ladakhi food for your folks back at home. All the vegetables are locally grown using organic methods. The hosts take special care and the food is hygienically prepared. Please inform us in advance though, if you have any specific requirements or allergies.
When you stay at Hymia, you stay at a house of former archery champion of LAdakh. Hymia is known for the beautiful basket-making skills of its villagers. Are you choosing this homestay because you need some time away from your urban life? Does living in a mud house in the mountains truly excite you? If your answer is yes, start packing your bags now! You might not get uninterrupted internet here, but you’ll be far too busy exploring the most breathtaking, most unseen corners of the trans-Himalayas, to miss your Twitter feed and news updates. The greatest luxury here is spending your days under a bright, blue sky at a beautiful mountain destination, getting freshly cooked organic food for every meal, and swapping stories with locals, who open their doors and hearts to you!
Guests like to eat our Ladakhi food. They say it is delicious, even when it is prepared by an elderly ama (mother) like me. I always make sure I serve them the cleanest and healthiest food. My husband is a copper artist. When guests leave us, they say ‘Julley’, and hug us. It makes us feel happy.
I became a Mountain Homestay Host in 2018, and I have hosted many travellers since then. Running a homestay has helped me and my family a lot. Not only is the solar set up in our house useful for us, but even travellers prefer to stay in our homestay because of it.
The training we got in astronomy turned out to be a life-changing experience for our village. I felt happy and proud while mapping the position of the planets and sharing the secrets of the universe with the tourists. Tourists told me that even they didn’t know so much about the dark skies!
One of the best homestays! I stayed here over 4 weeks. The host is amazing. She is polite, always willing and wanting to help. Truly makes one feel at home. Do not miss on taking a walk around this picturesque village guided by her wonderful son and definitely try your hand at archery. I will remember this stay for a while!
